Ben and Zach (Back 2 Back!)
So a couple weeks ago I went to go see my buddy Danny Sabra play a show at the Benson Grind, a local coffee shop venue that's in my neighborhood. I'd been there a couple times before, but I'd never done a show there. So, in the midst of the music and the festivities of the event, I went up to the counter and scheduled two shows. One in mid-August and one in mid-September.
Well, this monday, after a long weekend at a family reunion in Iowa, I remembered the show that I signed up for. But unfortunately I couldn't find the piece of paper that told me the date.
"Darn" I thought.
So I simply walked down to "The Benson Grind" to ask "Alan" when I was scheduled for. When I got there, I was surprised to see the one and only "Zach Short" ordering something at the counter. "Hey Zach Short!" I exclaimed, sticking out my hand in warmth and friendship. "Hey Ben Lueders!" exclaimed Zach, as he shook my hand with vigor. It turns out that Zach was about to play a show that night.
As Alan flipped open the show schedule we were both surprised to see that I was scheduled to play on Wednesday...two days away! I looked at Zach and said: "You wanna open for me?"
Zach was all like:Â "Sure thing, bro!"
That night I created an event on Facebook. Slowly people began to commit...
Last night was the show...and it went great. Zach set the perfect tone for the evening with his laid-back, soulful jams. It really calmed my spirits and drew the audience in. Even Zach commented on how attentive the listeners were, with his usual wit and craftiness. (He's a really funny guy. No, seriously. He's great.)
Thanks to all who came...and especially to Zach. Looking forward to more shows together in the future...
