Memphis Road Trip
We spent the 4th of July weekend reuniting with family in Memphis TN - a first time visit for most of us. It was also the first real road trip for our little family of 5. In all, we had a great time! Here are some of the highlights.
Our kid's "road trip faces" at 5:30am:
A contemplative moment with Meg at the amazing Eclectic Cafe, right across from the Memphis Zoo.
Grandpa Lueders carries Zaye in downtown Memphis.
Grandma gets out an umbrella during a light shower.
My brother Abe works as a city planner for the Downtown Memphis Improvement District. After only a year of being there he already has a vast and growing knowledge of what's going on in the heart of the city. He also has good taste for local eateries - here he's pictured at the amazing Aldo's pizza.
Abe took us to his office and showed us a scale model of downtown Memphis.
Meg explored the old, exquisite Peabody hotel - known worldwide for their trained ducks.
One of the creepiest/lumpiest dog statues I've seen.
Meg snapped this dramatic portrait of me on the bridge to Mud Island.
Abe and Abigail - our Memphis relatives. They're expecting their first kid later this year!
The irreplaceable Zaye-Zaye:
Mud island features an enormous scale replica of the Mississippi River that kids can explore and splash in.
A group of us enjoyed the Memphis Zoo.
The boys cooling their feet at the zoo.
The beautiful and weird Megan Lueders.
Abe took some of the men out for a night of drinks, food, sights and conversation in downtown Memphis. First stop was Ghost River Brewing Co.
John & Diego
Meg snapped some shots of the boys in our quaint AirBnb:
Jonah likes how he seems to have a mustache in this pic:
Chilling in the vast (and hot) Shelby Farms park.
Poor Isaiah burned the bottom of his feet standing on a metal slide (that had been roped off) – he insisted on being carried or seated the rest of the day.
Frozen treats makes everything better.
John Schuncke actually snapped this one with my camera as I was cleaning the other boys up - thought it was a great shot!
My sister Naomi is expecting her first child this year as well.
Hanging out in Abe's ford pickup:
Couldn't resist! Hard to resist Gus's Fried Chicken as well...
We really enjoyed our first AirBnb! Here's us trying to get a family shot using a timer - before heading back home at 6:30am.
Sunset - right before getting back home in Omaha!
